PrinterOn provides patrons the ability to print from their own mobile devices while at the library.

The award-winning Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is a $65 million independent taxing entity that serves 1.5 million people over 8,000 square miles. Through its 25 branch libraries, the District reaches the urban and suburban communities of the Las Vegas Valley, as well as small and medium-sized towns throughout Clark County and remote rural areas. The branches offer more than two million books, audio, video and digital resources, as well as free programs including author visits, music and dance, children’s activities, computer classes and workshops.

The Challenge

  • Before PrinterOn, patrons could only print from their own laptops using an internal print management system
  • The library wanted to provide patrons with the ability to print from their own mobile devices such as iPads and smartphones
  • The solution needed an easy way for patrons to pay for their print jobs

The Solution
The District chose PrinterOn for their mobile printing solution. The solution was deployed at 13 locations throughout the District. Each location has a PrintConnect network device, PrintValet keypad and an HP Color Laserjet printer. The PrintConnect devices are connected to the LVCCLD network and to each printer allowing processed documents to be downloaded from the PrinterOn Cloud and delivered to the printers. The PrintValet keypads are connected to the PrintConnects and allow documents to be released. Users simply send an email with attachment to the unique email address of the printer, use one of the mobile printing apps for iOS®, Android® or BlackBerry® devices or upload documents to a web printing portal from laptops. A release code is sent back to them and the code is entered on the keypad at the printer to release their documents.

Patrons pay for the prints using the PayPal Application from PrinterOn. The PrinterOn Pay- Pal Application allows PayPal billing to be directly integrated into the PrinterOn service for a simple and trustworthy pay-for-print solution for LVCCLD locations.

The library advertises the mobile printing service to patrons by placing signage next to the PrinterOn release stations and promotion in newsletters. If the demand for mobile printing exists at the other 12 branches, the service may be extended.
